Our co-founder Jennifer recently spoke with Shoutout Colorado about starting Jlounge and the years of experience that went into developing a new spa environment. Keep reading to learn more about Jen’s vision, advice, and favorite local spots.

From the Shoutout Colorado article:

Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I started out working at spas in Boulder in the late 1990’s after my oldest son Jackson was born. After several years of experience, I started working out of my home, and then opened a skin care studio in Boulder where I had my own spa business for 10 years, ‘Serendipity Spa’. I always knew that I wanted to expand my business with a team in mind to provide more natural services and products to our clients. I had a vision of providing natural, organic skin care, acupuncture, massage, facials, manicures, and pedicures with health and wellness being top of mind. Working collaboratively with like minded practitioners was my ultimate goal.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Absolutely, I think that what sets Jlounge apart from other businesses is that we are always looking to provide the best customer service and the best spa experience from start to finish. We always strive to provide superior, effective treatments from the best practitioners we can find, as well as offering clean, natural and organic products. We also use non-toxic cleaning and sanitation products for all of the surfaces, tools, tubs and overall cleaning in the spa to maintain a healthy environment, not only the clients, but our Jlounge team as well. Building a team that feels supported and appreciated has been top of mind for me. I have been an esthetician and a nail technician for 24 years now, and I have worked for good employers and bad ones. I want to make sure that our employees are compensated well and appreciated for the work that they do. It takes a village to run a business, and no one is pulling this off on their own.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I would suggest staying at The St. Julien in Boulder. Walk around the Pearl Street Mall to shop, dine and explore the beautiful town of Boulder. Drive up Flagstaff road for the scenery and some hiking. Take them to the Kitchen Upstairs for dinner and drinks, then pop over to The St. Julien to listen to music and enjoy a night-cap. Spend a day at Jlounge for a massage, facial, mani/pedi, or treatment of choice and have them pick out some fun retail finds and JL ESSENCIALS products to take home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I would like to give a shout out to my business partner Julie Perington. She was a client of mine and believed in my vision of what I wanted Jlounge to be almost 10 years ago now. I couldn’t have done this journey without her. I would like to thank our Jlounge team, especially our most loyal and long time employee, Amelia Vargas. She is an amazing Esthetician, Acupuncturist and lead for our team. I’ve never known anyone quite as dedicated, hard working, with the utmost integrity in my career. The Boulder community has also been amazing throughout the years, especially through the pandemic. I feel blessed to own a business here and live and work in this community.
