Your skin already knows what to do. It has its own system for managing inflammation, oil production, and cell repair — a network called the endocannabinoid system. CBD works with that system, not against it, meeting your skin where it is and gently supporting what it needs.
That’s not a trend. It’s biology. And it’s the reason we’ve been formulating with full-spectrum CBD at JLounge for years — long before it became a buzzword.
July is National Hemp Month, so we wanted to take a moment to share what we’ve learned from using CBD in our treatment rooms and in our own JLEssencials skincare line: what the research supports, how our estheticians use it across different facials, and how you can experience it yourself, whether at home or during a treatment.
What Is CBD, and Why Is It in Skincare?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound from the hemp plant that interacts with the skin’s endocannabinoid receptors to help regulate inflammation, oil production, and cell turnover.
Unlike THC, CBD produces no psychoactive effect. It’s legal in all 50 states when derived from hemp containing less than 0.3% THC, and it’s been widely embraced across the skincare and wellness industries for its gentle, supportive properties.
What makes CBD particularly interesting for skincare is that your skin has its own endocannabinoid system (ECS) — a network of CB1 and CB2 receptors, along with TRPV channels, that help regulate processes like sebum production, inflammation response, and how quickly skin cells regenerate. When CBD is applied topically, it interacts with these receptors directly at the site where your skin needs it most.
A 2025 review published in the National Library of Medicine confirmed that topical CBD demonstrates anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and moisturising properties through these receptor interactions
How Does CBD Benefit Your Skin?
CBD supports skin health by calming inflammation, helping to regulate oil production, providing antioxidant protection, and supporting your skin’s natural repair process.
It calms inflammation and redness.
CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties help soothe reactive, irritated skin. In Colorado, where altitude intensifies UV exposure and dry air strips moisture, this is particularly relevant. If your skin tends to flush after sun exposure or reacts to seasonal changes, CBD can help bring it back to a calmer, more comfortable place.
It helps regulate oil production without over-drying.
For oily or combination skin, CBD can help balance sebum output. For dry skin, it offers nourishing hydration. This dual action is one of the reasons our estheticians reach for it across so many different skin types — it meets each person’s skin where it is.
It delivers antioxidant protection.
CBD is naturally rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E, along with omega-3 fatty acids, which protect skin cells from free radical damage caused by UV exposure and environmental pollution. At Boulder’s elevation, where our skin encounters higher UV levels than at sea level, this layer of antioxidant support really matters.
It supports skin recovery.
Whether your skin is adjusting to a new season, recovering from a treatment, or simply worn down from a long stretch of sunscreen, sweat, and environmental buildup, CBD’s calming properties support your skin’s own repair and renewal process. It’s one of the gentlest ways to help your skin find its way back to balance.
What Is the Difference Between Full-Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate?
Full-spectrum CBD contains the complete range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids from the hemp plant, while isolate contains only CBD. Research suggests full-spectrum extracts are more effective because these compounds work together synergistically — something sometimes referred to as the entourage effect.
This idea aligns with how we think about skincare at JLounge. We’ve always believed in working with whole, plant-based ingredients rather than isolated synthetics. When you use the whole plant, you’re honouring the way nature intended these compounds to work together.
Every CBD product in our JLEssencials skincare line uses 100% USDA certified organic, full-spectrum hemp extract for this reason.
Which JLEssencials Products Contain CBD?
JLEssencials is our in-house skincare line, made from 100% plant-based ingredients, created by spa professionals, and tested in our treatment rooms for years before ever reaching a shelf.
Several products in the line feature full-spectrum CBD as a core ingredient.
Balance Simply Full-Spectrum Facial Oil
This facial oil combines full-spectrum hemp extract with jojoba oil and essential oils of peppermint, lavender, white grapefruit, and rosemary verbenone.
It’s designed to calm inflammation, remedy dryness, and help address bacteria that contribute to breakouts — all in one product. Noncomedogenic, so it won’t clog pores, and it works beautifully across all skin types, including combination and acne-prone skin.
Our estheticians use this oil in facial treatments and recommend it for daily home use. It layers well under moisturiser or can be used on its own.
Jojoba oil closely mimics the skin’s natural oils, making it highly absorbable — and it can actually help balance oily skin by signalling that enough oil has been produced.
Rose Complete Restorative Full-Spectrum Serum
This serum pairs 300mg of full-spectrum CBD with organic rosehip seed oil, organic jojoba, lavender, carrot seed oil, rose absolute, jasmine, and rosemary.
The botanical blend is designed to hydrate, reduce inflammation, and support collagen synthesis, making it a particularly beautiful match for dry, mature, or sensitised skin.
We recommend applying it nightly after cleansing and toning.
It’s one of the products clients tend to notice the most — the texture, the scent, and the way their skin feels in the morning.
How We Use CBD Across Our Facials
CBD isn’t something we add as an afterthought. It’s woven into our treatment protocols in intentional, specific ways. Each facial uses particular CBD products chosen for the skin concerns that treatment is designed to address.
Balance Simply Corrective Facial | $215 | 70 Mins
This facial is built around the entire Balance Simply line, including the Balance Simply Full-Spectrum Facial Oil with CBD.
The treatment begins with microdermabrasion or dermaplaning, followed by extractions and Celluma LED Light Therapy. The Balance Simply CBD oil is used as the finishing serum — for congested or inflamed skin, it’s applied directly; for dry or dehydrated skin, it’s layered over our Line Erase Serum.
The CBD here works to calm post-treatment inflammation while helping to balance oil production in combination and acne-prone skin.
Rose Complete Hydration Facial| $220 | 65 Mins
This facial is built around the entire Rose Complete line — the Rose Complete Hydration Mist, Rose Complete Restorative Full-Spectrum Serum, and Rose Repair Cream.
After microdermabrasion or dermaplaning and a custom serum infusion, your esthetician performs a facial massage using the Rose Complete CBD Serum, bringing its hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and collagen-supporting benefits deep into the skin.
The treatment finishes with our Glo Simply mask, leaving your skin dewy, soft, and deeply nourished. Scalp and hand massage are included.
Ayurvedic Restorative Facial | $215 | 70 Mins
(CBD Add-On Available)
This grounding treatment begins with singing bowls for vibrational healing and a rejuvenating back scrub, followed by a facial cleanse, steam, enzymatic exfoliation, finishing mask, Kansa wand massage, warm stones, and a hand, foot, and scalp massage.
When you add CBD, the treatment uses either the Rose Complete Restorative Full-Spectrum Serum or the Balance Simply Full-Spectrum Facial Oil on the face — chosen based on your individual skin needs. The Rose is typically selected for Vata and Pitta constitutions, and the Balance for Kapha, though your esthetician will guide you based on what your skin is asking for that day.
Glo Simply Rejuvenating Facial | $185 | 60 Mins
This uplifting, detoxifying facial features dry brushing, jade gua sha, and facial cupping alongside our Glo Simply collection.
The Rose Complete Serum is massaged into the skin during the gua sha and cupping steps, bringing CBD’s anti-inflammatory and cell-regeneration benefits into a treatment that’s all about renewal and radiance.
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture (from $155)
All three tiers of our Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatments incorporate CBD.
The Standard treatment uses our full-spectrum facial CBD oil. The Enhanced treatment adds JLEssencials products and Celluma LED alongside CBD serums. The Ultimate treatment layers in a specialized human growth-factor serum with CBD serums and your choice of NuFace microcurrent or Celluma LED.
In every version, CBD serves as a calming, anti-inflammatory foundation that supports the skin’s natural healing response to acupuncture.
Integrative Holistic Microneedling (from $375)
Our microneedling protocols use a higher-concentration Rose Complete 2000mg CBD Serum as the very first step after cleansing, massaged into the skin for three to five minutes before the treatment begins.
The CBD serum is chosen here for its calming, anti-inflammatory properties, which help prepare the skin and support recovery.
A small amount is also applied after the treatment for hydration.
Why Trust JLounge for CBD Skincare?
JLounge has been voted Best of Boulder for 12+ consecutive years.
Our JLEssencials CBD skincare line has been recognised as the Best CBD-Infused Skincare Products by the Daily Camera’s Boulder County Gold People’s Choice Awards four years running. That recognition came directly from clients who use these products and experience the results firsthand.
We didn’t start using CBD because it became popular. We formulated with it because our owner, Jennifer Zrubek, and our team of licensed estheticians saw what it did for real skin in real treatment rooms, over years of consistent use.
That’s the difference between following a trend and building a philosophy around an ingredient you believe in.
Can You Take CBD Internally for Skin Health?
While topical CBD works directly at the skin’s surface, many people find that taking CBD internally supports overall balance and calm, which can show up in your skin over time.
At JLounge, we also carry Lost Range CBD gummies. A Colorado made product that offers a simple, enjoyable way to support your body’s stress response and promote restful sleep.
Better sleep and lower stress are two of the most underrated factors in skin health, and many of our clients use these gummies alongside their topical skincare routine.
