Acupuncture

Acupuncture at JLounge:

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that involves the gentle insertion of fine, sterile needles at specific energy points on the body to support the body’s natural ability to restore balance and vitality. It’s a natural, non-invasive approach to treating a wide range of concerns, including pain, anxiety, stress, digestive imbalance, hormone fluctuations, women’s health, facial rejuvenation and overall wellness.

How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture is both an art and a science, an ancient healing practice now supported by modern research. It restores balance within the body’s natural systems, helping you feel more energized, emotionally balanced, and resilient to stress, even if you don’t have a specific medical concern.
Think of your body like a living circuit board: energy, blood, and information flow through pathways called meridians. When these pathways are open and balanced, your systems communicate harmoniously. But stress, injury, or emotional strain can create blockages that lead to pain, fatigue or imbalance. By stimulating precise acupoints along meridian pathways, acupuncture clears these blockages, enhances circulation, and activates your body’s self-healing response.
From both an Eastern and Western perspective, acupuncture helps: regulate the nervous system, release endorphins, improve blood flow, and calm inflammation helping you feel grounded, relaxed, and renewed.

What Acupuncture Treats

Acupuncture is a whole-body therapy that addresses both symptoms and root causes. Because it brings your body back into balance, it can benefit nearly every system; physical, emotional, and energetic.
Many clients come to acupuncture for specific concerns and stay because they feel more grounded, clear, and resilient overall.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does acupuncture feel like?
Most people are surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. Sensations may include a mild pressure, warmth, heaviness, tingling, or a subtle ache that quickly fades. Many patients feel deeply relaxed during treatment, some even fall asleep.
Are the needles painful?
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, much finer than hypodermic needles used for injections. While you may feel a brief sensation upon insertion, acupuncture is generally not painful.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes. Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed acupuncturist using single-use, sterile needles. Your practitioner will review your health history to ensure treatments are appropriate for you.
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your initial appointment includes a comprehensive intake, discussion of your health goals, and your first treatment. We may also assess your pulse, tongue, and areas of tension. Treatment plans are always individualized. After needles are inserted you are given time to rest for 20-25min, this is when the deeper healing occurs.
How often should I come in?
Many people start with weekly or twice weekly sessions, then taper to biweekly or monthly maintenance as symptoms improve. Preventative or wellness care may be monthly or seasonal.
What can I expect after treatment?
You may feel relaxed, calm, and centered, sometimes even energized. It’s best to rest or do gentle activities after your session to allow your body to integrate the effects.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Eat a light snack, stay hydrated, and wear loose, comfortable clothing. It’s best to arrive relaxed and open to the experience.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your condition, how long it has been present, and your overall health. Acute issues may resolve quickly, while chronic or complex conditions often benefit from a series of treatments. Acupuncture is cumulative each session builds on the last. Your practitioner will design a plan to meet your specific needs.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
Yes, acupuncture can support pregnancy safely and effectively. It helps ease nausea, back pain, insomnia, and emotional changes, always using points that are safe for each stage of pregnancy.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are typically mild and may include temporary soreness, slight bruising, or feeling relaxed or tired after treatment. These effects usually resolve quickly.
Can acupuncture be combined with other treatments?
Absolutely. Acupuncture works well alongside conventional medical care, physical therapy, massage, skincare treatments, and holistic therapies. We are happy to collaborate with your broader healthcare team when appropriate.
Do you accept insurance?
While we are not in-network with any insurance plans, some insurance reimburses for out-of-network services. We are happy to provide superbills upon request.
Do you accept Health Savings Account (HSA) cards?
Because we operate as a spa, many Health Savings Accounts do not allow direct payment with HSA cards. However, we’re happy to provide a detailed superbill upon request so you can submit it to your HSA administrator for possible reimbursement. We recommend checking with your HSA provider in advance to understand your specific coverage.
